Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o is out of the country.
Nyong'o who is also a member of the Health Committee in the Council of Governors which is chaired by Marsabit Governor Mohamed Kutti, is in Cuba alongside some of his colleague members to represent the interest of the council in regards to health-care.
Given that Cuba is one of the countries with comprehensive health-care scheme, Prof. Nyong'o was the initiator of NHIF Universal Healthcare project in Kenya, which is a key factor in the delivery of Kenya's health agenda.
The Council of Governors nominated Prof. Nyong'o to accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta for the trip.
During their first day in Cuba on Wednesday, the delegation visited Cuba's leading research and pharmaceutical group, Labiofam, to study how Caribbean nation has innovated in its fight against tropical diseases and promised to work closer with Cuba to replicate its success.
Through Labiofam, Cuba would train health staff undertaking malaria programmes in Kenya so as to utilise, minimise costs and the time taken to fully implement the programme.
