Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's father, late Mzee Gideon Kioko Kivanguli is a Kamba from Mua Hills in Mavoko, Machakos County.
Kivanguli, however, moved with his family to Mombasa County where he used to sell beach plots to the European buyers.
This therefore means that Sonko is a Kamba but he cannot speak the language.
Many Kenyans have been asking why Governor Sonko claims to be a Kamba but cannot speak the local language.
Consequently, some Kamba leaders have attacked the governor claiming he's not a Kamba.
Problems began when afew elders from Ukambani region crowned him as a Kamba elder, an act which brought a lot of questions with the former Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama rubbishing the act.
"How can Sonko become Kamba elder when he can't even speak Kikamba?" Muthama retorted during a political rally in Machakos town.
These are the reasons why Governor Sonko can't speak Kikamba:
Sonko was born in Mombasa and not Ukambani.
He was born on February 27,1975 and grew up in Mombasa County.
Sonko attended Kikowani Primary School and later joined Kwale High School in Kwale County.
So, this simply explains why he cannot speak Kikamba.
Sonko wasn't born in Ukambani.
Conclusively, Sonko is a born town as many may call people who are born in big towns.
