Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has challenged Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to allow Opposition alliance NASA to set up a parallel tallying centre during the August polls.

Speaking on Tuesday at Ngunguni bus park in Kilungu, the law professor noted that there is no law that prohibits political parties or any elections stakeholders from compiling election results.

"The proposed parallel tallying centre will not be different from international election monitoring units which follow polls," he said.

"This will help each party know the votes they have garnered and whether they tally with the IEBC results," he added.

He further noted that the Opposition outfit will not accept rigged polls.

"We will not accept a stolen election," he observed.

Both Jubilee and IEBC have vehemently opposed the plan by the Opposition to stream election results parallel from those of the electoral agency.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati last week stated that the body is the only constitutionally allowed entity to conduct polls.

Jubilee Party on their part claims that the plan by the Opposition could plunge the country into chaos and violence after the August elections.
