Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chief executive Ezra Chiloba to resign ahead of the October 17 re-run for the presidential election.
Omar who recently resigned as the Wiper party secretary general said by vacating office, Chiloba will allow a process that is agreed upon by both parties to go ahead.
"I have nothing but respect for Chiloba having worked closely with him previously, but on this, he’ll do this country good if he steps aside and allows a process that is agreed upon by both parties to proceed," said Omar during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday night.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) led by its presidential candidate Raila Odinga is adamant that it will not participate in the repeat poll unless several officials at the IEBC leave office.
It has accused the officials among them, Chiloba, of being responsible for the bungled August 8 presidential poll which was nullified by the Supreme Court.
Jubilee party on the other hand says replacing Chiloba will compromise the election.
However, the CEO has said he will not resign.
At the same time, Omar is upbeat he will win a petition he has filed against Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s victory.
"We’ll have a by-election in Mombasa before year end. The Mombasa vote was full of irregularities just like in other parts of the country and people in my secretariat felt that there was something wrong with the results," stated the former Senator.
