Kisii residents have been cautioned against visiting chemists to buy medicine before being medically examined, a health official has said.
According to Kisii County Director of Health Dr Geoffrey Ontomu many people visit chemists to be given medicines without being examined for the disease they suffer from.
Dr Ontomu who on Thursday visited Oroche dispensary in Bonchari constituency during the launch of distribution of mosquito nets said that most of people complain that they are given some drugs that has never helped them hence remain complaining without knowing that they were given those drugs from a chemist as they were not tested.
“Many residents visit chemists and being given drugs without being examined hence they keep complaining about drugs given," he said.
"Let our people visit hospitals so that they first be examined and given drugs according to the results after examined."
He added that there were anti malaria drugs in all health centers which will help any patient who will be reported with malaria.
“There is enough medicine in our hospital for any case of malaria that will be reported in this season but we encourage residents to use mosquito nets as the first protection of malaria," he added.
