It has emerged that many men push their wives to face the knife due to cultural pressure.
Two women who were arrested in Elburgon after undergoing the cut said that they were forced to undergo the rite of passage to end their husband's stigma in society.
The two, who were arrested at Ndoswa Marioshoni, said their husbands have been despised in society for having uncut women.
"They always face stigma for marrying women who have not been circumcised. And instead of being looked down upon, we decided to do it," one of the women said.
Sources within communities said arresting those who undergo the cut, without addressing community's perception towards female circumcision, is an exercise in futility.
"The government should address the perception and mentality of members of the community towards incut women," John Moiben said.
