Lawyer James Orengo has moved to Kisumu High Court in defense of Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s victory.
Contrary to expectations of many, Orengo, who was Raila Odinga’s lead counsel in August controversial elections which were nullified by the Supreme Court, is not playing any primary role in three other petitions that have been filed to challenge Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
“Never was I in Kisumu High court last week,” Orengo replied to a tweet in which one of the users had mocked him of defending electoral commission IEBC, which he accuses of fraudulent activities.
Orengo went to historical books when he successfully challenged a presidential petition in Supreme Court, a landmark occasion that has earned him a nickname “walking constitution’.
But at Kisumu, Orengo is standing for Nyong’o, who is facing challenge from his predecessor Jack Ranguma.
“I will be there on Tuesday to defend Prof Nyong’o. I have never acted for IEBC or its predecessors,” wrote Orengo.
Currently, Orengo is among legislators leading a vicious campaign against the electoral body which he accuses of persistent bungling of elections.
