Nairobi City. [Photo/magicalkenya.com]Walking in the Nairobi CBD has never been more unsafe.
This is the painful reality in spite of the fact that the Nairobi CBD happens to be the seat of the national government.A good friend told me he usually walks with three wallets; two decoys and the real thing that has money as a security measure. Every time I am in the city, I make sure I scan my environment after every 10 steps. And once in a while, I catch a glimpse of some guys following me who then disappear after learning that I am aware of their plans on my coins. Last week I saw this lady, stranded and in tears after her handbag, loaded with some 50k, phone, and important documents, was snatched from her. Generous passers-by had to dip into their pockets so that she could get at least some fare back home. There are these boys who move in packs preying on unsuspecting Nairobians and then pounce on them. What's even shocking is how brazen they are as if they are under the protection of law enforcement officers. They are always on the prowl.River Road is notorious for these incidences. The County Government of Nairobi must put this madness to an end. Some boys who want to reap from where they did not sow cannot be allowed to continue terrorising hard-working Kenyans.
