Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Peter Kenneth has maintained that he cannot work with Jubilee Party candidate Mike Sonko.

While responding to calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta who on Friday asked him to abandon his bid and support Sonko, Kenneth said he is the best candidate to lead the country's capital, terming Nairobi Senator "unmitigated disaster".

"Sonko has failed in his role as a Senator and cannot wash his hands off the mess he has made. He is the one who should back me," Kenneth said on Sunday while campaigning in Karen.

The former presidential candidate added: "I have walked all through and seen the troubles Nairobians are facing. It is evident that even Sonko cannot be a solution to these problems."

He further said President Kenyatta is free to campaign for candidates vying on his Jubilee Party ticket but should let people decide the leaders they want.

"Governorship is not about party prestige, it is about service delivery to the people. It is them who know the kind of a leader they want," the former Gatanga MP said.

Kenneth ditched JP to run as an independent candidate after he was defeated by Sonko in primaries held in April.
