Nyamira Women Representative Alice Chae has opened up about her deteriorating relationship with County’s First Lady Naomi Nyagarama.
The duo have been having hot and cold relationship, with Chae occasionally accusing the governor's wife of sabotaging her initiatives to uplift the living standards of marginalised groups in the county.
However, Chae, who spoke to the reporter on Friday said the First Lady was unhappy when she challenged donation of improvised reusable sanitary towels that were being dispatched to school girls.
"I am an all-round woman but I am really disappointed with the office of the first lady. My trouble with her started when I raised concerns about issuance of reusable sanitary towels to school going children. Even though I have no problem, she has always taken that personal,” she said.
“Such sanitary pads could not be used by our girls because of health hazards since they were not properly trained over the same. I suspected that they could stink thereafter causing great concerns in classrooms and general their health. Young girls could not use such reusable sanitary towels which are not authenticated by medics,” she said.
Chae said her office will embark on a series of projects aiming to dispatch modern sanitary towels to school girls to prevent instances of missing classes during their menstrual cycle.
“I think the sanitary pads from the office of First Lady would be appropriate to elderly women and not young girls. I am in the process of rolling out series of projects that will see our girls receive modern sanitary pads so that they stay in school during the menstrual cycle,” she argued.
