Machakos County boss has said that there is nothing wrong with him employing his relatives in the county assembly.
The governor said that they belong to the 70% constitutional employment share of county jobs. Mutual distanced himself from the nepotism allegations that have rocked his administration and said his relatives were employed in Machakos even before the implementation of County Governments.
When asked why he employs Kenyans who do not recite in Machakos, Mutua said that the Kenyan law provides for 30% of employment to citizens who do not reside in the counties they are employed in. He believes that the opposition he is facing is based on the development track record as opposed to violating the constitution.
“The law demands that we employ 30% non-locals. My relatives are in Machakos so they should also be employed,” Mutua said.
Speaking on JKL, Mutua said that he has written a new chapter in Machakos. He says that for decades, Machakos has been receiving relief food but this has changed since he took over the County. The governor says that Machakos people are no longer suffering from hunger and water shortage.
“I wrote a new chapter for the people of Ukambani. A people who had suffered for long,” said the Governor.
