Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has said that he fell out with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government because of fighting for the rights of the less fortunate in the society.

The vocal politician said that his firm stands on matters of national concern have made an enemy of the Jubilee regime.  He argues that he has been arrested on several accounts because of crimes he did not commit.

“I have been arrested, taken to court and detained for charges that don’t warrant to be detained. My troubles began by speaking the truth and defending the people of Kenya by pinpointing wrongs committed by Jubilee government,” Muthama said, as quoted by Standard.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) Leader also said that the government has been applying double standards when it comes to the fight against hate speech. This is after he was arrested alongside Gatundu Member of Parliament Moses Kuria.

Muthama alluded that he was used a scapegoat in arresting Kuria, who has been hitting headlines because of his controversial political career. The former senator has, however, maintained that nothing will stop him from airing the grievances of Kenyans as long as he is alive.
