The announcement of National Supper Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate was a big day in the history of opposition but Senator Johnson Muthama did not attend.
However, the Machakos County senator has revealed that the differences with his party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka who was picked as Raila Odinga’s running mate forced him not to attend. Muthama confirmed that all this was done in good faith because he did not want his emotions to spoil the most anticipated day.
“That is the day I started having serious differences with my party leader. I did not want to speak with anger. We had already finished our business of selecting the presidential candidate,” said Muthama.
His absence made several people guess who could have been chosen. Some thought his party leader was the chosen one forcing Muthama to be absent considering their differences.
The two differed earlier after the party accused Muthama of favoring Raila Odinga in the former Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD). He was in the select committee with ODM’s James Orengo and Ford Kenya’s Dr Simiyu Eseli.
The wrangles spilled over even after Musalia Mudavadi joined in under the NASA alliance. He was accused of misrepresenting the interests of Kambas in the committee tasked with the responsibility of choosing the opposing flag bearer.
