Opposition leader Raila Odinga had a sitdown with the Sunday Standard for a wide-ranging interview.Odinga said that he favoured constitution reforms that would abolish the presidential system and usher in a parliamentary system and also strengthen the constitution to safeguard the independence of the judiciary.''The parliamentary system that could have addressed the rifts was opposed by opportunists during the Bomas talks. A presidential system cannot work in an ethnically polarised country like ours. It is only a parliamentary system that will ensure that even someone from the minority rises to the top.'' The veteran opposition leader said.Odinga's remarks came in the backdrop of a standoff between the government and the opposition Uhuru Kenyatta's presidency.The Bomas draft constitution had provisions that would have made Kenya a parliamentary democracy but it was rejected.
