Kiala claims that organizers of the debate also contacted him at the last minute, making it difficult for him to attend.

The Machakos deputy governor refuted claims that he feared to debate with his boss Dr Alfred Mutua hence opting to skip the debate.

“I have nothing to fear about Governor Mutua and I can debate and put him to task to explain what he has done for the Machakos people,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.

Kiala said that his bid to send Mutua packing is intact, adding that he is the best candidate to steer Machakos to success.

The deputy governor asked Mutua to brace up for a tough battle on August 8. Kiala said that Mutua does not deserve re-election because he has failed to fulfill the promises he made to residents in 2013.

The deputy governor snubbed the Sunday governor debate at the Machakos University.

Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, who is contesting on the Wiper party ticket, also gave the debate a wide berth.

The live debate on Citizen TV  was only attended by Mutua and Lemi Muia, who is vying for the top seat on Jubilee ticket.

Mutua slammed Ndeti and Kiala for snubbing the debate, saying they don’t have the interests of the people at heart and are only interested in power.
