Uasin Gishu Jubilee party Senator nominee Prof Margret Kamar has pledged to help ensure proper legislation that will support devolution are put in place if she will be elected to sit in the Senate.

Speaking to the press after being cleared to vie for the seat by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Monday, Prof Kamar said she is vying for the Senate due to its role in the success of devolution.

She further assured that she would effectively represent the interests of the people of Uasin Gishu at the Senate.

"The Senate must create the agenda that will drive devolution and this is why I am vying for this seat because I know how important it is for the for Kenyans to see counties effectively deliver their mandate," noted Prof. Kamar.

"I want to ensure the Senate puts in place the law that will govern devolved. We also need legislations that will guarantee real Senate oversight over counties as well as ensuring their interests are properly represented," she added.

Prof Kamar, a minister during the grand coalition government and a former MP for the then Eldoret East constituency unsuccessfully vied for the gubernatorial seat on ODM ticket in 2013.
