An MP from Nairobi has claimed his recent arrest was occasioned by his decision to clap his hands and cheer on when opposition leader Raila Odinga was taking oath at Uhuru Park on January 30.
Makadara MP George Aladwa speaking during a political talk show on Radio Jambo said his only mistake was to celebrate Raila's inauguration.Aladwa is among opposition leaders who were arrested after Raila was sworn in as the people's president at Uhuru Park one month ago."What crime did I commit?" the outspoken MP asked."How do you arrest a man who only stood to clap his hands when Raila was being sworn in and leave the man who was actually holding the Bible?" he asked.Aladwa was arrested by police at his Buruburu home on February 3, four days after the opposition chief’s inauguration as the people's president. He was taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Kiambu for interrogation before being arraigned in court.Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i accused the MP of being part of a team that organised the event that was meant to overthrow a government legally in place. Also arrested, charged and released was Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang' who told the police to focus on fighting militant group al-Shabaab instead of fighting the opposition.
