Fear of Raila's arrest, negative international image and possible death of NASA supporters informed Ida Odinga's decision to oppose the move, reports the Star.
With Mombasa having identified as venue to the much hyped swearing-in, NASA had to call off the process but vowed to announce date later.
"There were fears of convulsive violence, fears that Raila himself would have been arrested and jailed for treason and fears that his legacy would be irredeemably tarnished,' a source said.
Although criticized for allegedly misguiding government, AG Githu Muigai had warned that anyone taking presidential oath outside the constitutional framework would be charged with treason.
At a tense meeting on Sunday attended by family members, diplomats and NASA leaders, Ida is said to have dared organizers to go on with the plans.
"She told those pushing for it to swear another person and not her husband. She was clear that swearing-in was crazy and wondered where it came from," added the source.
Also, NASA leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka are said to have opposed the move our 'unclear strategy should Odinga take oath.
Despite making minimum public appearances, Ida has been instrumental in Raila Odinga's political journey.
