As the country prepares for the August 8, 2017 election, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched the second Mass Voter Registration exercise countrywide.

The exercise will be carried out from January 16 for a period of 30 days.

IEBC is targeting to register between 4 to 6 million additional voters.

Did you know that IEBC could deny you registering as a voter?

First, IEBC cannot enlist a person under 18 years of age. Under the law, a person below 18 years has no contractual capacity to vote or vie for an elective position.

Secondly, the electoral body cannot register someone not in possession of the original Identity (ID) Card or a valid Kenyan passport.

When one has been found guilty by an election court or reported to be guilty of any election offence during the preceding five years, they cannot be registered as a voter.

Lastly, a person who has been declared by a competent court to be of unsound mind, cannot be enlisted by IEBC.
