[Photo: standardmedia.co.ke]Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Dr Roselyne Akombe says she has written to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). This, she says, is for the purpose of looking into screenshots circulating on social media showing 'me having meetings I never had'.Akombe is alleged to have met the Nasa leadership over election issues after the Supreme Court ruling. Screenshots of WhatsApp chats alleged to be between her and Siaya Senator James Orengo, has also been in circulation."I have never met the NASA leadership till we started having the tripartite talks with both Nasa and Jubilee. But before then I had met Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju. It is a meeting I can publicly confirm because as far I am concerned, it was in the interest of the electoral process," Akombe told K24 TV on Tuesday evening. She said that IEBC cannot be focused on all the rumours out there because as an electoral body they have to deliver on their mandate. On the Bomas meeting on Tuesday between IEBC, NASA and Jubilee Akombe said, to the commission, it was 'very fruitful' adding that they are looking for ways to address to NASA's 'irreducible minimums'."The issues they raised are very serious but we don't believe they are too difficult to solve, we have a team working on them. As a commission, we have taken the Supreme Court's ruling, gone through it and made a plan to work on it. We have been given a second chance, we will continue reaching out to the voters and various stakeholders," Akombe added. She asked those pushing for amendments to elections law to consider the fact that IEBC is already done with their manuals and other preparation procedures.
