The Selection Panel for the appointment of commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has shortlisted five candidates for the position of chairperson.
Those shortlisted for interviews include former Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commissioner (TJRC) Margaret Wambui Ngugi Shava from Kiambu County, advocates David Kiprop Malakwen (Nandi) and David Mukii Mereka (Murang'a).
Others shortlisted include Devolution expert Dr John Mutakha Kangu (Kakamega), Roseline Odhiambo-Odede (Kisumu) who was a member of the now defunct Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board (JMVB).
The five were picked from a list of 13 applicants – including six lawyers and a judge – who had expressed interest in the job.
In a notice published in newspapers, the Selection Panel said the five candidates will be interviewed on November 28 and 29th with each candidate allocated two hours.
After the interviews, two names will be submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta who will nominate the chairman and send the name to parliament for vetting.
The President will also receive nine names from which he shall nominate six commissioners.
The Chairperson and the Commissioners shall be appointed for a single term of six years and shall not be eligible for reappointment and they shall serve on a full-time basis.
