Kiambu County governor candidate Ferdinand Waititu’s running mate, James Nyoro, has said that independent candidates are more likely to flop in the forthcoming general elections because “history does not favor them”.

Nyoro, who has been very vocal on matters of the county, said that incumbent Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and other independent candidates from different parts of the nation should prepare for humilitiating defeat because they have failed to read the politics of this nation.

The politician cited the Former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi’s era where leaders such as Koigi wa Wamwere and Chelagat Jemutai attempted to contest as independent candidates but they were beaten terribly by their opponents who were contesting on KANU and other political outfits in the nation.

“During Jomo Kenyatta’s reign, Bildad Kagia and Fred Kubai failed when they caused internal revolts. During Daniel Moi’s time, Jean-Marie Seroney, Koigi Wamwere and Chelagat Jemutai failed. During Mwai Kibaki’s time, Paul Muite and the rest failed. The current crop of rebels will also not succeed,” says Dr Nyoro, as quoted by The Standard.

The remarks of Nyoro come at a time when both Waitutu and Kabago are campaigning in different parts of the county as the election date draws closer.
