Even though Uganda Cranes coach Moses Basena has named AFC Leopards midfielder Allan Kateregga in his provisional squad of 30 players ahead of the 2018 Africa Nations Championships slated for January 13, possibility of the dancing rasta making it to the field of play is close to zero.

Kateregga will have to wait longer before he can qualify to represent his country in an official match.

According to Article 38 of the Chan Rules and Regulations guiding on the ‘Qualification of Players’ for the macthes, ‘Each Association shall select its national representative team from players enjoying the citizenship of its country, regularly qualified to participate in its national championship, subject to its jurisdiction and qualified for selection in conformity with the provisions of the regulations governing the application of the FIFA statutes.’

It states that  only players who have a permanent contract with a local club affiliated to their national association can be eligible to take part in the African Nations Championship.

With Kateregga's contract still at Leopards, his chances of donning the Cranes shirt are null except if a miracle happens.

This has been confirmed by head of FUFA Communications head Ahmed Hussein.

"Kateregga can’t feature for Uganda Cranes in CHAN because a permanent contract is needed for him to be legible. His clubs can clear him [before the deadline for submitting the list to CAF] but would be  circumventing the rules," Hussein said as reported by Futaa.
