It is high time parents stopped waiting to see their children living the lives they know they themselves cannot or could not live. We are always talking about how we are going to leave our world a better place for the next generation, but we fail to address whether that next generation will have the sense to make good use of whatever is left for them. It is the time we understand that inheritance makes no sense when it is only about property, but not about personality.

Children must of necessity see examples set of people who make good use of the property and love their neighbor’s. The benefits of doing good are not tangible. Doing good results in rewards such as long life and good health. The fact that so many of us believe that not much can be done to secure such things is unfortunate. Everywhere in the world, people believe in karma or blessings being the results of good deeds. Why do we not pay attention to the truth of such beliefs?

Doing good can only be measured by the reputation we acquire. It necessarily involves touching the lives of others in some way. When we imagine that we could share our riches with others, we squirm at the thought of those others benefiting from our efforts. People believe that everyone who earns is entitled to keep what he/she earns all to herself.

But this is not altogether a bad thing because good relationships, even the most divine ones are founded on the basic principle of giving and take. It is naturally fair and just to expect that when I give you, I can take from you. The fear, however, is that many people are so greedy that they will devise a method of giving less than they take. It is almost impossible for anyone to monitor such behavior and ensure that in a world where the majority is giving, there is no greedy minority that is amassing.
