Former Raila Odinga adviser Miguna Miguna is chased away by Kisumu residents in 2012 during popularizing of his anti-Raila book (Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice). [Photo: omwenga.com]They say you may love him or hate him, but Miguna Miguna is not about to shed-off his rabble-rousing character anytime soon which has put him at odds with many, especially in the political circles. The former adviser to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Constitutional Affairs shot to the national limelight when he fell out with Odinga and made public some of the best kept secrets around his former master, through his book, Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice. For starters, in this book released in the run-up to 2013 General Elections, he accuses many political associates of Odinga of alleged corruption, embezzlement of public funds and general ineptitude over public affairs. He even went further to personally accuse Raila of supposed abetment of some if not all, of these ills.Miguna's allegations got to a point that Raila's cohorts got so disturbed, that they opted to sue Miguna for defamation. Raila, as always, was projecting himself as a reformist, but from the contents of the book, the general public had begun doubting his reform capabilities. The Miguna 'anti-Raila propaganda', as it was referred then by Miguna's critics, was a shot in the arm of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto's campaigns as they used the book to ferociously attack Raila. At one point Jubilee Coalition then was accused to be behind Miguna's 'eye-opener' literature. It was easy to believe the narrative because Miguna even openly supported 'UhuRuto's' election despite that they were facing grievous crimes at the International Criminal Court. But flashforward to October 2017 and Miguna is the fiercest critic of Uhuru and Ruto. What went wrong, one may ask? Well, it is only Miguna who knows. But, who knows, it may be as a result of unfulfilled promises on the side of the duo which could have angered Miguna to this date. This could have been complicated further by the fact that when Miguna announced his gubernatorial bid for Nairobi County, 'UhuRuto' showed no interest in supporting his candidature.Note that Miguna's anti-Jubilee rhetoric has grown after he lost badly in August 8 poll. He has fallen short of rallying his support behind his former boss, whom he roasted black in the court of public opinion less than five years ago.
