Following the latest meeting between NASA leaders and the IEBC, it has become clear that it is impossible to please Raila Odinga, who appears keen to oppose everything. During the meeting with IEBC bosses, Raila and his team rejected everything that Wafula Chebukati and other senior commission officials said had been put in place in order to hold free and fair elections. Repeated assurances from IEBC fell on deaf ears.Siaya Senator James Orengo said IEBC must meet NASA’s list of ‘irreducible minimums’ before elections are held on October 26. “We left the meeting with nothing agreed upon. We insist that our demands must be met for purposes of having an election within 60 days,” Orengo said after the meeting, a third one since the Supreme Court nullified the presidential election results. Raila’s opposition to everything has left many Kenyans wondering what he will ever say yes to. The ODM leader has opposed Dubai-based firm Al Ghurair printing the election materials when knowing very that IEBC does not have enough time to do procurement and find another printer. Raila has also rejected the involvement of French IT firm Safran Morpho, IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba, Safaricom, KDF, returning officers countrywide among others in the fresh presidential election. This is unreasonable, considering the limited time left to hold the polls. Some of the issues that made the Supreme Court to declare the election results null and void, such as IEBC officials refusing to sign forms, have now been addressed in the proposed election amendments. Raila has opposed them. It leaves one wondering whether he opposes everything just for the sake of it.
