The feeling of having a career in life is one that makes a person feel full in life. However, when situations become unbearable after the offering of service to the society, then people feel demoralised and wasted for the time they invested in practicing the careers. This is what the retired teachers of 1997 are undergoing through at the moment.
The retired teachers of 1997 in Kenya have undergone a hard time in accessing their retirement benefits. For 18 years, these teachers have been in pursuit of Sh42.3 billion salaries and pension arrears. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been evasive in giving these people their retirement pay.
Excuses have been given daily and the teachers have hard a difficult time by going to court frequently to fight for their rightful pay. Others have even died without enjoying the fruits of their labour.
mouldingSuch acts of suppression will only make people shun from education careers. These teachers did their best in creating the lives of other people who today are earning from lucrative careers. The burden they took of guiding the lives of others should not be taken for granted and the state should end their misery and award them their retirement benefits.
The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Dr. Fred Matiang'í should come in and assist these teachers in getting their due pay.
It is such acts of suppression against teachers that has always led to frequent teacher strikes in the country. These are people who were of service to the nation and they should be given a time to freely spend their retirement time without any stress.
