A visibly agitated Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho repeatedly labeled Deputy President William Ruto a 'thief' as their relationship yet again deteriorated.
Joho, a fierce critic of Jubilee government, has been at loggerheads with top Jubilee leadership and is also on record for dismissing President Uhuru Kenyatta's projects in the coast.
And on Saturday, Joho accused Ruto of stealing billions of money which he said belonged to the public.
"I know that thief is in Mombasa and is singing my name. He is a thief and he will pay dearly someday," Joho dared to say in Bomet.
But it all started when the DP unilaterally referred Joho as an academic dwarf, remarks that have since angered Joho, who now seizes little opportunities to hit back.
"Joho might be an academic dwarf but Ruto is an academic fool. He thinks he is learned but does not understand issues affecting people," Mvita MP Abswamad Nassir told the Star.
According to political scientist Nyachieo Bogonko, Joho could also be unhappy with Ruto over increased activities of Jubilee politicians in Mombasa.
"Suileman Shahbal isa friend of Ruto and he has been on Joho's neck all times. Joho could be unhappy with such activities and he solely blames Ruto," he said.
The two leaders are also eyeing for presidency in 2022 elections hence the early rivalry.
