NASA supporters in Mombasa held peaceful anti-IEBC protests on Monday despite the absence of Governor Hassan Joho.
ODM supporters who waited for Joho for almost two hours at Uhuru Gardens in Mombasa expressed their disappointment after the Governor failed to show up.
Some of the supporters who spoke to this writer said the protests felt weak and incomplete without the presence of the county boss.
“He is the Sultan and the King of this game. We feel bad that he couldn’t attend this very important occasion though we believe he is somewhere representing our county Mombasa,” said Mbwana Athman, a Mvita resident.
The protests were however led by Joho’s deputy William Kingi, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib and Likoni MP Mishi Mboko.
Addressing supporters at Treasure Square, Twalib said Governor Joho is not only a Mombasa politician but someone who represents the ODM Party countrywide, as he is the party’s deputy party leader.
“People have been saying that we can’t demonstrate without Governor Joho. I want to tell our enemies that Joho does not play the small leagues like you, he plays Manchester and Arsenal,” said Badi.
On his party, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir said Joho has been busy with issues concerning the ODM Party and NASA coalition as a whole.
When contacted, Joho’s office confirmed that the county boss was attending to official duties.
