Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has reignited his call for equal resource distribution in the country, a remark that may anger President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Joho who has constantly been Uhuru's critic from the time he was elected governor in 2013 says part of Kenya's problem is the unequal distribution of resources especially land which, he says if addressed can put to rest recurrent tribal clashes in specific parts of the country.
"There must be equity in land distribution, economic fair play and equal representation in government," he said after Monday's meeting attended by opposition chef Raila Odinga in Mombasa.
"As a party we maintain that to achieve this the country will require Constitutional amendments to succeed. We will stand by that."
Joho's problem with Uhuru began in 2013 when the commander in chief rejected his proposal that the central government should buy the Waitiki land in Mombasa and freely distribute it to squatters.
Joho then had said that squatters in other parts of the country had been given land for free and the same should apply to Mombasa squatters.
But Uhuru who received less than 100,000 votes from Mombasa County in 2013 told Joho to spare his own money and buy the land on behalf of the squatters.
