Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday unveiled Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) lecturer Dr William Kingi as his running mate during the August polls.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony held at Forodhani Restaurant in Mombasa's Old Town, Joho revealed that he had settled on Kingi as his deputy due to the don's vast experience in administrative and bureaucratic issues.
“I am pleased to state that after consulting stakeholders and the people of Mombasa, I have settled on Dr William Kingi as my running mate. I picked Dr Kingi because he is a person who can stand and fight for the rights of the people,” he noted.
“Mombasa needs leaders who are committed to providing for their people and not traitors. The county does not need a leader who does not know why he is going for leadership but it requires someone who will stand up to defend the people,” he added.
Joho will be seeking re-election on an ODM Party ticket.
Others eyeing the seat include Senator Hassan Omar (Wiper), Suleiman Shabhal (Jubilee) and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti (VDP).
