Kongowea MCA Jabez Oduor has said Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho will lose in the August general election.
Jabez said Joho is not a good leader as many people think, adding that the county boss was nicknamed Sultan because of his oppressive rule.
“When people call him Sultan, they do not necessarily mean he is a good leader. The traditional sultans of the East African Coast were never popularly elected leaders,” said Jabez, as quoted by The Star.
The MCA also accused the governor of not engaging with the electorate in the grassroots, arguing that he relies on his financial muscle to woo the electorate.
“Governor Joho is not effective in grassroots campaigns. He depends on his money. And that can sometimes give you a brief success. But in the end, money is not leadership,” he added.
Jabez also pointed out that Joho is not popular among the Swahili Arab, Luo and Luhya communities, adding that he will be in for a rude shock come August.
“The governor is unpopular among the Swahili-Arab community, in which he belongs. They will not vote for him. He is equally unpopular among many Mombasa residents, originally from Western Kenya - Luo and Luhya,” he said.
