Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's already troubled political career is now hanging on the balance after being blacklisted by rights activists over integrity issues.
Joho who has been blacklisted alongside 19 other politicians by the National Integrity Alliance is now at risk of being barred from vying in the forthcoming August 8 elections.Already, the activists have presented the list to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and other agencies for consideration.According to their leader Samuel Kimeu, the list was informed by the reports from credible institution, adding that they have also looked at the cases active in the courts.Should the poll body approve the activists' plea, then Joho who has had several run-ins with the government in the past few months, will not be in a position to defend his seat. The ODM deputy leader already has a case pending in court regarding the authenticity of his academic credentials.Just recently, the office of the DPP gave a statement saying that fair probe into the Governor's KCSE certificate had revealed that the certificate had been forged. However, should the Wafula Chebukati-led commission dismiss the activists' list, then Joho's bumpy journey to defending his seat will be cleared paving way for a grueling August contest.
