Speaking on Wednesday in Kiambu County, the head of state noted that Jubilee Party upholds democracy, and will therefore respect the will of people.

He further said the party will not issues direct nomination tickets to candidates, saying citizens will have the final say on who the party fields in different positions.

“The nomination exercise will be free and fair. No one will be accorded a direct ticket because the people are the ones who will decide those to run on the party’s ticket in the August polls," he said.

“No one seeking our party’s ticket – from MCA to president – will be given a direct ticket until after the nominations are held and the electorate have picked their choice," he added.

He took a swipe on the Opposition for giving out nomination certificates to candidates unopposed in positions they are seeking, saying the parties had failed to uphold democracy.

“No one who believes in democracy hands out direct tickets even before nominations,” he said.
