Mombasa businessman and Jubilee politician Suleiman Shahbal has asked NASA leader Raila Odinga to attend President Uhuru Kenyatta's swearing-in ceremony if he means well for the country and Kenyans.

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa Town on Monday, Shahbal who unsuccessfully contested for the Mombasa governor seat in the August 8 polls said Raila needs to work with Uhuru for the sake of the country’s unity.

He raised concerns over NASA’s plan to hold a parallel rally during Uhuru’s inauguration ceremony, saying the move is suspicious.

"Raila Odinga should attend Uhuru's ceremony if he really cares for Kenyans as he claims," said Shahbal.

The Jubilee politicians said it is time Raila supported Uhuru for the good of Kenyans.

"I know he has been invited to the big event and he should come and congratulate Uhuru for winning the election and support his administration," he said.

Uhuru will be sworn-in on today (Tuesday) for his second term at the Kasarani stadium.

Uhuru last week invited Raila alongside other opposition politicians and Kenyans to his inauguration ceremony.

Raila has, however, declined Uhuru's invitation saying he will be leading his supporters in a requiem mass at the Jacaranda grounds to mourn victims of police brutality.

The opposition leader has maintained that he does not recognise Uhuru's presidency, adding that he will continue advocating for election reforms through economic boycott and formation of people's assemblies.
