A section of Kalenjin elders in Uasin Gishu county on Friday held a meeting to deliberate on the current growing rivalry between the Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Joseph Misoi, group representative warned the Kalenjin politicians from dragging in the name of the retired President Daniel Moi into the current politics noting that he "retired a long time ago he deserves much respect".
"Mzee left active politics. He is among the greatest leaders of the Kalenjin nation and we all owe him respect. As elders we respect him for his good leadership and will never overlook the good deeds he did for us," said Misoi.
The elders revealed plans to invite Mzee Moi to Uasin Gishu county in the near future to give him thanks for leading the community and the country diligently for a period of 24 years.
Misoi also said if the former head of state will not make to come to Uasin Gishu, they are ready to visit him at his home in Kabarak.
"We were led by Mzee Moi for more than 24 years without any problem. We as elders of the community need him to visit us so that we can show our gratitude for what he did for us," he said.
The elders further said they are working on having DP Ruto enjoined in the plans to give thanks to Mzee Moi as he too is among the senior members of the community.
The move may, however, be seen by political analysts as an attempt to calm down the ever-rising political rivalry between the DP Ruto and Senator Moi both who have declared an interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
