Kalonzo Musyoka is commonly known as a watermelon by many. This has been his nickname in his political arena since 2010.
Eight years down the line, Kenyans and other politician have still addressed him as a watermelon. But many do not know the origin of this.
In 2010 Kalonzo Musyoka supported the draft constitution in the campaign but members of the campaign team opposing the constitution, led by William Ruto, claimed that he was secretly opposing the draft leading to a comparison of Kalonzo to a watermelon fruit which is naturally green on the outside and red inside.
The team supporting the new constitution was represented by colour green while the team opposing the draft constitution was represented by the colour red hence the rival between the "green team" and the "red team"
Kalonzo's nickname watermelon was because of his open support for the green team and secret support for the red team.
Ever since then he was nicknamed as watermelon. Musyoka has been on the watch by Kenyan who politicize his political ways.
During the swearing in of Raila Odinga as the people's President on 31st January, Kalonzo skipped taking the oath.
This was another platform for Kenyan to address him as 'watermelon'
