Wiper party is a wounded lion in Machakos County. The August 8 polls proved that there was something wrong with Kalonzo Musyoka’s outfit when it comes to internal democracy.
The party lost the top two county slots and four parliamentary slots. Many believe that the shambolic primaries are the reason Kalonzo Musyoka is losing at home.
Incumbent governor Alfred Mutua retained his seat while Wavinaya Ndeti’s former party Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) snatched the senatorial slot from Wiper. Other places that Wiper party was smashed are Mwala, Kangundo, Machakos and Yatta constituencies.
Speaking to the press after getting provisional results, Mutua mocked Wiper leadership. He said that he was fighting Kalonzo Musyoka and leadership that promotes poverty.
“This was not a competition between me and Hon Wavinya Ndeti, but between me and Hon Kalonzo Musyoka. Wavinya was his pet project. It was a competition between the improvement of lives and the politics of misery and poverty. Competition between the struggling masses who want Maendeleo in a Chap Chap manner and the rich elite who wish to maintain the status quo,” Mutua told the press after getting provisional results.
