Barely nine months after 2017 elections, 2022 politics have started shaping up with several politicians declaring their presidential candidacies already.

One of the obvious presidential candidates is former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. He contested for the seat in 2007 and lost. In 2013 and 2017, Kalonzo supported Raila Odinga.  Members of the Wiper party and his close allies believe that Kalonzo will be sworn as the president of the Republic of Kenya

However, Kalonzo's dream might not come true if he is not going to seek the support of Governor Alfred Mutua who has also showed his interest for Statehouse.

Kalonzo and Mutua hail from the same region and Kalonzo should seek his support because of these reasons:

1. NASA Coalition

After Kalonzo skipped the controversial swearing in of NASA leader Raila Odinga on January 30, the coalition's politics took a U-turn. ODM party declared it might have to go alone in 2022 and Moses Wetangula who seems to be enjoying the support of Musalia Mudavadi declared his candidacy .This means that Kalonzo should start seeking the support of other top politicians and he should start by Alfred Mutua before moving out of Kamba land.

2. For unity of Kamba region.

The presence of Kalonzo and Mutua in the ballot will divide the region into two, Kalonzo and Mutua’s supporters. The two leaders should therefore agree on whom to go for the seat so that the region can vote as a block. If Kalonzo will win the support of Alfred Mutua, then he will be able to compete with other candidates who enjoy massive support from their regions.
