For a while now, the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been known to be a “watermelon”. This was glued after the mock swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga on January 30. However, he should play his cards well to outshine other NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.
Early last week, Moses Wetangula was kicked out of Senate Minority Leader office and replaced by the Siaya Senator James Orengo. Since then, Kalonzo has remained mum despite others wanting to hit Raila back and renounce his secret unity deal with president Uhuru.
Many people are predicting his “watermelon” behavior as he did not feature in the rallies schemed by Wetangula and Mudavadi across the Luhyia Nation.
Having the traits of having no political stance, he is in a torrid moment trying to make a viable move that has his career at stake. He has failed to make a decision whether to follow the duo in their rallies or to follow Raila’s bandwagon.
The dilemma is putting the former Deputy President in a position of picking from two options, something that is not that easy. If he joins Raila, he will be called Raila’s puppet and also betray the cause of unity he had declared with Wetangula and Musalia.
If he joins the Musalia and Wetangula, the move might not bear good fruits, and if it does not, the trio will be forgotten politically and it will take him an eon to rise again. However, it will be difficult.
Therefore the manner in which he plays his cards here, determines a lot. He must look for a way to outdo Wetangula and Musalia and come up stronger in order to wash the “watermelon” mentality that Kenyans have upon him.Through this he will rise to a political stardom again.
