NASA leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday made good his threat to be sworn in as the people's president at an event held at Uhuru Park, Nairobi. However, his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka was conspicuously missing from the swearing-in ceremony.Kalonzo’s absence is continuing to elicit mixed reactions among Kenyans, with many questioning his commitment to the coalition. However, Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdullahi has come to the defence of the former Vice President, saying that he is an accomplished lawyer who cannot participate in such a 'mock' process."What did you expect from an accomplished/ distinguished lawyer of Kalonzo's standing? To participate in a mock/ meaningless swearing-in exercise as the people's president? Come on people, give Hon Kalonzo some credit. Please. He did the right thing by avoiding the circus," Ahmednassir said in a post on his Twitter handle.Besides Kalonzo, NASA principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula also gave the event a wide berth. They, however, have since issued a statement explaining their absence even as they maintained that they are firmly behind Raila Odinga's cause. They added that they will meet in two days as NASA’s top leadership to address the “immense challenges facing this country”.
