Kalonzo said the 2010 constitution is ripe for an amendment to address some of the critical issues facing the country.

Speaking during Wiper party parliamentary retreat in Naivasha on Friday, Kalonzo said the issue of unity and inclusivity can only be realized through a constitutional amendment.

The former Vice President echoed NASA leader Raila Odinga's proposal for a three-tier government.

"The only sure way of ensuring proper healing and reconciliation is by reviewing the constitution for inclusivity," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo warned that the country will continue to grapple with negative ethnicity unless the law is amended.

Some politicians are lobbying for constitutional review ahead of the 2022 general election.

On Thursday, Kathiani MP Robert Mbui and Kitui senator Enoch Wambua supported calls for the constitutional review.

The Ukambani leaders said the constitutional review will guarantee inclusivity and put an end to the divisive general elections.

However, a section of politicians among them Deputy President William Ruto is opposed to the proposal.

Ruto argues that the constitution is okay hence no need for an amendment to create political positions for 'election losers'.

The call for a constitutional amendment is likely to gain heat in the coming days even as politicians propagate 2022 succession politics.
