Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans to meet retired President Daniel Arap Moi days after the long serving former President met with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
According to sources, Kalonzo is likely to meet with Moi this week in what political analysts argue is the battle for support ahead of 2022 general elections.
Kalonzo's planned meeting according to his insiders will be a courtesy call to check on the former President who recently underwent a knee surgery in Israel.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Kalonzo’s audience with Moi is likely to focus on 2022 succession politics.
Ngure notes that Kalonzo has a strong relationship with the Moi family and would want to seek their support as he lobbies for presidency in the next polls.
“Kalonzo should be sincere and tell Kenyans that he wants to meet Moi to discuss 2022,” Ngure said on Wednesday.
Ngure said politicians are using the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to seek for political partnerships as they align and realign for 2022.
The political pundit revealed that Kalonzo is keen on securing Baringo senator Gideon Moi’s support ahead of 2022.
There have been claims that Kalonzo could partner with Moi in 2022.
Political pundits observe that the Moi- Kalonzo or Kalonzo-Moi tie could excite voters in 2022.
Both Kalonzo and Moi have declared interests in the top seat in the highly awaited polls.
Last week, KANU secretary General Nick Salat ruled out any possibility of Moi stepping down for anyone in 2022.
Kalonzo's push to meet with Moi comes days after Raila met the retired president at his Kabarak home.
