The son of the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kennedy Musyoka, was nominated to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA), purely on merit basis.
According to Farah Maalim, Wiper's Deputy Party leader, the young Musyoka had been picked up on the basis of his qualifications and capabilities.
“We are happy to announce the best-vetted candidates, and Kennedy Musyoka emerged with the highest score among the seven applicants who submitted their names,” said Maalim.
The Garissa Township parliamentary seat aspirant added: “Kennedy is a young, brilliant man who was chosen by the party on merit. He showed us that he is capable and qualified for the EALA position.”
Minority whip in the National Assembly Thomas Mwadeghu on Thursday submitted the names of Kennedy Musyoka, Judith Pareno, Caroline Aluoch Obure, Ronald Ng’eny and Abubakar Zein as Cord’s nominees for EALA.
During the interview and vetting process conducted by Wiper National Executive Council (NEC), Kennedy garnered 22 votes against his competitor Temi Mutia who managed only one vote.
However, the nomination of Kennedy and Pareno who is the ODM National Election Board Chair, has elicited sharp debate in the political arena.
A section of Jubilee and the National Super Alliance (NASA) legislators have vowed to oppose the nominees and make sure that they do not give them the green light.
