Former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi officially joined the crowded race for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat on Sunday after launching his bid at Mariakani Secondary School grounds.Though he is considered an outsider in the race that is seen to be a two horse-race between ODM's Amason Kingi who is the incumbent and Jubilee's Gideon Mung'aro, Kambi is optimistic that he can pull a surprise and stun the two favourites. The former Kaloleni MP who is vying on little known KADU Asili party has however remained tight-lipped on his choice of presidential candidate. While defending his stance, Kambi said if elected, he will work with any President as no county government will realize any development without working closely with the national government."We will not abuse the President who is elected by millions of Kenyans," he said, while taking a swipe at Governor Kingi who has been engaged in a war of words with President Uhuru Kenyatta.Kambi who was once a Jubilee Party die hard hopes to use his neutrality stance on the choice of presidential candidate as a springboard to clinch the seat. However, the trick may backfire as Kenyans generally like associating with political parties. With Mung'aro being Uhuru's point man and Kingi Raila's man-on-the-ground, convincing voters without any affiliation to any presidential candidate is bound to fail.
