The positions of prime minister and two deputies are unnecessary, a section of clergy has said.

The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) recently proposed the expansion of the Executive, arguing the creation of the positions would promote inclusivity and ownership of the government.

But the Assemblies of Pentecostal Churches have opposed the proposal, saying the creation of the posts would create two centers of power and be a financial burden to the country.

"The country should be looking for ways of reducing the ballooning wage bill not creating unnecessary positions to suit interests of a few individuals," said Chairperson Mike Ngari.

Speaking in Embu County on Saturday, the over 20 pastors said the current political stalemate should be solved through the provisions of the laws of the land.

"We are urging leaders to end the political impasse but as provided for in the Constitution. Using unconstitutional means will plunge the country to further crisis," Ngari warned.
