The three families which have dominated Kenyan politics since independence are out to ensure Deputy President William Ruto does not clinch the presidency come 2022, a top city lawyer has said.
Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Tuesday claimed the family of Kenya's founding father, Jomo Kenyatta, the family of Kenya's second president Daniel Arap Moi and the family of former vice president Jaramogi Oginga Odinga are determined to stop Ruto quest to ascend to power.
He said three families are worried that in case a Kenyan outside the three establishments takes over power, it may be difficult for any other individual from the three entities to lead Kenya. He said power would have shifted to the ordinary Kenyan.
"Deputy President William Ruto is the first son of a peasant father to have a realistic chance to become Kenya's President in 2022," Ahmednasir said on his official Twitter account.
"In the past two months, the three royal dynasties of Kenyatta, Odinga, and Moi seem united in handshakes to remind Ruto that they are unprepared for rabble becoming King!"
Members of the three families have met in the recent past and political analysts also claim there could be a ploy to block Ruto State House bid.
The first meeting was between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former President Moi before the head of State met opposition chief Raila Odinga. The last meeting was between Raila and former president Moi.
