Embattled Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter now wants legislators who voted for him as the chairman of the National Parliament's Labour and Social Welfare committee to be assessed by psychiatrists.
This is after members of the committee allied to the Jubilee Party wrote to the National Assembly speaker seeking a repeat of the vote claiming they were not in their right senses when they voted in Keter as the Labour Committee chairman and Bungoma Woman representative Catherine Wambilianga as the deputy.
Speaking at Kaptiel area in his constituency on Saturday, Keter said the ministry of health should provide psychiatrists who will examine the MPs so as to ascertain if they were eligible to vote or not.
"They voted for me and have now gone back and claimed they were not in their right senses if that's the case I believe we have psychiatrists who can do assessments and tell us the ones fit to vote," said Keter amid laughter from members of the public.
The vocal MP further criticized the Jubilee party leadership in the Parliament for involving the President and his deputy in the row over the committee leadership.
"Issues to do with Parliament should be handled in Parliament, not at the statehouse. The President and his deputy have their duties to do in ensuring what they promised to Kenyans are implemented they should not be involved in other matters like the election of committee chairpersons," he added.
Keter together with Moiben MP Silas Tiren and Marakwet East's Bowen Kangogo have declined to relinquish their committee leadership posts despite being ordered to do so by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto. The three insists that they were validly elected.
