To start with, history does not favor independent candidates in Kenya. It will be tough for the aspirants to put up a strong campaign against his opponents in the August general elections.
Secondly, the governorship race is a race two horse race. The contest is expected to be between Wiper and Maendeleo Chap Chap.
If former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti’s appeal following the nullification of her nomination sails through then the race will be between her and Mutua. Kalonzo will be seeking to teach Mutua a lesson as the governor fights to keep his presidential dream alive by winning the election.
Thirdly, Bernard Kiala is a lone ranger. Unlike other Independent candidates such as Kabago Governor William Kabago and Uasin Gishu hopeful Zedekiah Bundotich who have many supporters in the backyard, Kiala has a handful of supporters.
The alleged number of voters he garnered during Wiper nominations clearly shows that he will not be strong enough to unseat Mutua.
The aspirant has a daunting task to validate his dream as we head to the polls date since the region’s politics seem not to favor him.
