People get displaced and lose property whenever floods set in. Many lose their lives.

But in Kiambu, floods are a blessing in disguise. In fact, farmers in the county always pray for floods to come for them to get bumper harvests. They believe that without floods, there will be very minimal or no harvests.

Many areas affected by floods in Kiambu County have plenty of rivers and tributaries that smoothly move water without affecting both plants and human beings.

According to the agricultural officer in Gatundu Joel Karigi, Kiambu is one blessed county with a better climate and which adapts all weather situations.

"Plenty of rivers here have helped us contain floods situations as well as harvest enough water for sunny season. Kiambu County died of hunger unless the parents or guardians are okay. We are blessed with a climate responsive county making it ever green,’ he added.

‘It’s after it rains that we get to plant more crops; unlike Nairobi and Narok where people are moved by plenty of water, Kiambu county is blessed with an awesome natural drainage system with the highland areas having many trees that prevent soil erosion," said Nancy Gachunga, a farmer.

Establishment of Theta dam in Gatundu North is also prospected to help the county harvest more water increasing food productivity and ultimately improving the economy of the county.

According to a report from the Meteorological Department, rains in the past two years were more than expected hence harvests were also high.
